CELEBRITY ADS: JUDY GARLAND

This advertisement is new to me. I never knew that Judy Garland advertised for make-up giant Max Factor. This magazine advertisement Garland did in connection to her newest musical The Harvey Girls which was premiering in 1946...

  1. Not quite the same thing as celebrity ads have been now for quite a number of decades -- back then, most stars didn't model for the print ads - often they had no idea their image was even going to appear in a print ad for a product. The studio sold the rights to use their images for a set period of time in help for promotion money to advertise the films in release (or upcoming release). Just about every big female star had their image used for MaxFactor at some point - there was a time, Max Factor had their mits in just about every major studio's makeup dept as well - so the ties ran deep there.
